Carmyllie is a 152 hectare (375 acre) forest and farm at Grenville just south of Ballarat.

Carmyllie has nearly 120 hectares of plantation forestry.  Over the next 20 years we want to migrate part of the property to something like a European sustained yield forestry model with a wider variety of tree crop species than the current Pinus radiata and Eucalyptus globulus.

Over the same period the remainder of the property will become a farm growing grass for cattle and other pastured animals.  Other agricultural crops will be 'stacked' to make the forest and farm as productive as possible.

Our primary inspiration is the Permaculture of David Holmgren and the late Bill Mollison.  Other influences include Joel Salatin, Alan Savory, Wendell Berry, P A Yeomans, Peter Andrews and Rowan Reid.  As the term regenerative agriculture has become more widely used we are coming to the conclusion that this applies to what we are trying to do.

Carmyllie is owned by the Holdaway family.
